Elm Grove Nearing Completion: Stonewood Homes and Alliance Homes Deliver North Somerset’s First Passivhaus Development

We are thrilled to announce an update for the Elm Grove development, a ground-breaking partnership between Stonewood Homes and Alliance Homes. This marks a major milestone: North Somerset’s first Passivhaus housing scheme is nearing completion with all homes due to be ready to move into by the end of the year, setting a new standard in sustainable, energy-efficient living.

Passivhaus (or Passive House) is a globally recognised standard that focuses on ultra-high levels of energy efficiency, thermal comfort, airtightness, and low energy demand. Homes built to this standard typically require minimal heating, reduce carbon emissions, and offer exceptional internal climate control — meaning warm in winter, cool in summer, and with very low energy bills.

The Elm Grove scheme demonstrates Stonewood Homes’ commitment to sustainable innovation and delivering high-quality homes that prioritise long-term living costs, occupant comfort, and environmental responsibility.

Project Highlights & Collaboration:

•  52 homes in total, all built by Stonewood Homes to full Passivhaus standard.
• The scheme comprises of affordable housing, with both social rent and shared ownership tenures available through Alliance Homes.
• High-performance insulation, airtight construction, ventilation with heat recovery, and carefully considered layouts ensure each home is both practical and high-performing.
• Landscaping, green spaces, and careful masterplanning ensure Elm Grove feels like a community, not just a collection of houses.
